The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Scrap Yard Grapple/Shear Crane Operator to help keep our operation running safely and efficiently. This role is focused on loading, sorting, and moving scrap metal using cranes equipped with grapples, shears, and magnets. This is not an overhead crane position.
If you are a seasoned crane operator who enjoys a fast-paced outdoor environment, takes pride in mastering your machine, and values teamwork and safety, this is a chance to step into a key role with room to grow.
What You'll Do

- Sort, organize, and stage scrap materials to keep yard operations flowing smoothly and reduce bottlenecks.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and housekeeping around your work area to keep equipment in good working order.
- Maintain clear, constant communication with ground crews and other team members to coordinate movements and ensure safe operations.
- Follow all safety procedures, yard protocols, and traffic patterns to protect yourself, your teammates, and equipment.
What Success Looks Like
- Within the first few months, you are running your crane confidently and safely, with minimal supervision, and consistently meeting loading and production targets.
- The yard stays organized in your area, with materials properly sorted and staged, reducing rework and downtime for the rest of the team.
- Your crane inspections and minor maintenance help minimize unplanned breakdowns and keep equipment available for production.
- You are recognized by your teammates and supervisors as reliable, safety-focused, and easy to work with, contributing positively to the crew’s morale and performance.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of crane operating experience in a scrap, recycling yard, or similar industrial environment.
- Proficiency operating cranes with grapple and magnet attachments, and familiarity with shear operations.
- Strong understanding of industrial and yard safety procedures, with the discipline to follow them every time.
- Reliable, focused team player who communicates clearly and takes pride in safe, efficient, high-quality work; certifications are a plus but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive pay ranging from $20 to $22 per hour, depending on experience.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Full-time position.
- Work performed in a dynamic, fast-paced outdoor scrap yard environment.
