Help Keep Our People, Equipment, and Operations Moving!
At M&M Recycling, we're a family-owned metal recycling company that has been growing and serving Georgia communities since 1986. We believe in working hard, supporting one another, and giving our team members opportunities to learn, grow, and build meaningful careers.
We're looking for a Maintenance & Dispatch Assistant who is organized, dependable, proactive, and great at following through.
This is a unique position combining parts procurement, parts inventory management, maintenance coordination, and dispatch support. You'll play an important role in making sure our mechanics have the parts and assignments they need, repairs are completed on time, and our transportation team has the support needed to serve our customers.
If you enjoy solving problems, keeping people and projects organized, and taking ownership of your work, we'd love to meet you!
What You'll Be Doing
Maintenance Coordination & Work Orders
- Receive maintenance requests from our locations, create work orders, and assign repair tasks to mechanics.
- Coordinate daily mechanic assignments and priorities with management.
- Track open work orders, follow up on repairs, and hold team members accountable for completing assigned tasks.
- Ensure completed repairs receive management approval before closing work orders.
- Communicate repair updates and expected completion dates to yard managers.
- Prepare weekly reports on outstanding repairs, completed work orders, pending parts, and maintenance priorities.
- As you grow into the position, help coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and trucks.
Parts Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Research and source automotive, heavy equipment, and industrial machinery parts.
- Compare vendor pricing, negotiate when appropriate, and obtain management approval before placing orders.
- Order, receive, inspect, label, and organize parts and supplies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, including parts received, issued, and used.
- Monitor minimum stock levels and anticipate purchasing needs to prevent shortages.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked parts storage area.
- Conduct monthly parts inventory counts.
- Track tools assigned to mechanics and maintain accurate tool records.
- Handle parts returns, warranty claims, and vendor credits.
- Verify invoices against approved purchases and received inventory before forwarding documentation to Accounting.
Dispatch & Logistics Support
- Assist our dispatch team with entering customer orders, answering phones, and scheduling pickups.
- Learn our dispatch software and daily transportation processes.
- Become fully trained to independently cover dispatch operations when needed.
- Help keep communication flowing between our customers, drivers, yard teams, and management.
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in parts, inventory, purchasing, maintenance coordination, or a related administrative role.
- Required experience with automotive, commercial vehicle, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery parts in some capacity.
- Previous experience using maintenance management (CMMS), inventory management, or fleet management software.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Confidence communicating with mechanics, vendors, drivers, customers, and managers.
- The ability to follow up consistently, manage competing priorities, and make sure tasks get finished.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset and willingness to jump in wherever needed.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely in industrial and warehouse environments.
- Willingness to occasionally travel between M&M Recycling locations.
Even Better If You Have:
- Experience in an automotive parts department, industrial maintenance operation, heavy equipment dealership, or similar environment.
- Experience coordinating employees, work orders, or repair schedules.
- Familiarity with parts catalogs, equipment manuals, and part numbers.
- Experience with dispatching, trucking, or transportation logistics preferred, but not required.
You don't need to be a mechanic or have a college degree to succeed in this role. We're looking for someone who understands parts, knows how to stay organized, communicates well, and takes pride in getting things done.
