M&M Recycling
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Scrap Yard Manager

Company Overview

M&M Recycling is a well-established scrap metal recycling company serving all of Georgia. We are committed to safety, integrity, productivity, accountability, and great customer service while supporting a more sustainable future through responsible recycling.

Our team works in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where strong leadership matters. We are looking for a Scrap Yard Manager for our Sunnyside/Griffin Location who can lead from the front, develop their teams, maintain high operating standards, and take ownership of the performance of their yard.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Scrap Yard Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of one of our recycling facilities in Sunnyside/Griffin, GA.

This is a true management position with responsibility for employees, production, safety, material flow, equipment utilization, customer service, organization, and overall yard performance.

At the same time, this is not a desk-management role. The Scrap Yard Manager is expected to be highly visible on the yard, work alongside the team when necessary, help solve operational problems in real time, and step in wherever needed to keep production moving.

The right candidate will understand scrap metal operations, know how to manage people effectively, and be comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on work in an industrial outdoor environment.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and oversee all daily scrap yard operations, employees, workflow, and production activities
  • Lead, supervise, train, and hold employees accountable for performance, attendance, safety, productivity, and company expectations
  • Assign daily work responsibilities and ensure employees understand priorities and production goals
  • Maintain a strong presence throughout the yard and actively monitor work being performed
  • Work hands-on alongside employees when operational needs require it, including assisting with material movement, sorting, processing, loading, unloading, and equipment operation when qualified
  • Monitor inbound and outbound material flow to keep the yard organized, productive, and efficient
  • Ensure scrap materials are properly identified, graded, sorted, processed, stored, and prepared for shipment
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate material, processing, and shipping needs to company leadership
  • Coordinate equipment use throughout the yard and ensure equipment is being operated safely and efficiently
  • Identify equipment problems, communicate maintenance needs promptly, and coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize downtime
  • Maintain yard organization, housekeeping, traffic flow, and proper material placement
  • Enforce all company safety policies, PPE requirements, environmental procedures, and operating standards
  • Conduct regular yard inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions or operating concerns
  • Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Monitor production, employee performance, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency
  • Identify bottlenecks or problems affecting productivity and take action to resolve them
  • Provide coaching, training, and corrective feedback to employees when expectations are not being met
  • Build a positive, accountable work environment where employees understand expectations and are treated professionally
  • Assist customers and suppliers when necessary and help resolve grading, service, or operational concerns
  • Communicate clearly with senior leadership regarding staffing, production, equipment, safety concerns, inventory, and overall yard performance
  • Help identify opportunities to improve productivity, organization, safety, material recovery, and profitability
  • Perform other operational and leadership responsibilities as needed to support the facility

What Success Looks Like

A successful Scrap Yard Manager:

  • Maintains a safe, clean, organized, and productive yard
  • Knows what is happening throughout the facility and addresses problems before they become larger issues
  • Sets clear expectations and consistently holds employees accountable
  • Develops employees rather than simply directing them
  • Keeps material moving efficiently through receiving, processing, storage, and shipment
  • Reduces unnecessary downtime and communicates equipment issues quickly
  • Maintains strong control of material quality and inventory
  • Meets production and operational goals consistently
  • Communicates effectively with employees, customers, maintenance personnel, and company leadership
  • Creates a professional work environment built around teamwork, productivity, accountability, and respect
  • Is willing to roll up their sleeves and work alongside the team when necessary

What We're Looking For

  • Prior experience in the scrap metal recycling industry required
  • Previous supervisory, foreman, yard manager, operations manager, or similar leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of scrap yard operations, material handling, and recycling processes
  • Working knowledge of ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap metal identification and grading
  • Experience leading employees in an industrial, recycling, construction, manufacturing, warehouse, or similar hands-on environment
  • Ability to manage people, set expectations, address performance issues, and maintain accountability
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple operational needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Comfort working primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness and physical ability to participate in hands-on yard work when necessary
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, material handlers, forklifts, skid steers, or similar equipment is a plus
  • Strong commitment to safety and proper operating procedures
  • Dependable, proactive, and willing to take ownership of the facility rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done
