Heavy Equipment Mechanic
M&M Recycling is a family-owned scrap metal processing company dedicated to safety, productivity, and the highest quality standards in the recycling industry. We purchase, process, and sell both ferrous and non-ferrous metals while maintaining a culture built on teamwork, integrity, and growth.
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our operations team. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of industrial and heavy equipment used in our processing yard. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-conscious, and experienced in servicing large machinery in a demanding industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment including:
- Cranes with magnets and grapples
- Excavators
- Bobcats
- Forklifts
- Metal chopping machines
- Metal shredders
- Roll-off trucks, box trucks, and other fleet
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and execute timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Inspect equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and repair records.
- Collaborate with yard supervisors and operations team to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an industrial mechanic or heavy equipment technician (scrap metal or recycling industry experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Proficient with welding and fabrication repairs (preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in outdoor conditions year-round.
- Comfortable working around large, moving equipment and noisy environments.

Location: Locust Grove, GA
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM | Saturday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM (44 hours per week guaranteed, extra hours as needed)
