About the Role

M&M Recycling is seeking a Transportation & Logistics Manager to lead and scale our trucking and dispatch operations.


This is not a desk-only role.


This leader will:

  • Run dispatch operations hands-on
  • Lead and develop a team of drivers
  • Oversee fleet performance and compliance
  • Serve as the logistics point of contact for customers
  • Make real-time decisions under pressure
  • Use data and KPIs to drive performance

As the operation grows, this role will also build and lead a dispatch team, creating the structure and systems needed to scale.

You will play a critical leadership role in ensuring our trucks move efficiently, our customers are serviced on time, and our operation runs safely and profitably.


What This Role REALLY Requires


We are looking for someone who:


  • Has 5+ years of real dispatching experience with roll off truck (REQUIRED), as well as dump and live loading trucks.
  • Is willing to be hands-on in dispatch daily
  • Can lead drivers with authority, respect, and accountability
  • Can build and scale a dispatch team over time
  • Makes decisions based on numbers, not guesses
  • Takes initiative without being told what to do
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure, blue-collar environment


Core Responsibilities


Dispatch Operations (Hands-On Daily)

  • Execute and manage daily dispatch for roll-off trucks and other transportation vehicles
  • Schedule and assign: Container drops, swaps, and pulls
  • Customer pickups and deliveries
  • Internal yard transfers
  • Continuously adjust routes in real time based on: Traffic, delays, breakdowns, and customer needs
  • Maximize:
  • Container turns (revenue driver)
  • Truck utilization
  • Backhaul opportunities
  • Minimize: Deadhead miles
  • Driver downtime
  • Maintain real-time communication with drivers throughout the day
  • Ensure all dispatch activity is properly documented and tracked

Driver Team Management

  • Recruit, onboard, and train drivers (alongside our recruitment team)
  • Conduct ride-alongs and ensure proper training completion
  • Set and enforce expectations for:
  • On-time performance
  • Safety and compliance
  • Professionalism and customer interaction
  • Pre/post trip inspections
  • Manage:
  • Driver schedules and workload
  • Performance reviews (monthly, quarterly, annual)
  • Driver issues, discipline, and accountability
  • Lead weekly and monthly safety meetings
  • Build a strong, team-oriented, high-accountability culture

Fleet Management (alongside our maintenance team)

  • Oversee all trucks, trailers, and roll-off equipment
  • Manage:
  • Preventative maintenance schedules
  • Repairs and breakdown response
  • DOT inspections, registrations, and compliance
  • Track and improve:
  • Vehicle uptime
  • Fuel usage
  • Tire wear and maintenance costs
  • Coordinate with mechanics and vendors to keep fleet operational
  • Ensure all equipment is safe, compliant, and ready for dispatch daily

Customer Service & Logistics Coordination

  • Serve as the primary logistics contact for customers
  • Ensure:
  • On-time service
  • Clear communication of ETAs and delays
  • Professional handling of all interactions
  • Resolve customer issues quickly with a focus on retention
  • Coordinate closely with:
  • Sales / procurement
  • Yard managers
  • Operations teams
  • Align logistics execution with customer expectations and company capacity

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with:
  • DOT regulations
  • OSHA standards
  • Company policies
  • Maintain:
  • Driver files
  • DVIRs and inspection logs
  • Logbook audits
  • Track and respond to:
  • Violations
  • Accidents and near misses
  • Conduct internal safety audits and enforce SOPs

KPIs, Reporting & Operational Decisions

  • Track, analyze, and improve:
  • On-time service rate
  • Driver productivity
  • Route efficiency (miles per stop)
  • Deadhead %
  • Turnaround time per load
  • Cost per load / per ton
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports
  • Use data to:
  • Adjust staffing
  • Improve routing
  • Reduce costs
  • Increase output and efficiency

Dispatch Team Development (Future Growth Opportunity)

  • Identify when dispatch workload requires additional support
  • Assist in hiring and training dispatchers
  • Build SOPs, systems, and communication structures
  • Transition from individual contributor to leader of a dispatch function

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years dispatching experience with Rolloff Trucks (REQUIRED), as well as dump and live load trucking
  • Experience in:
  • Roll-off, dump, or similar trucking operations REQUIRED
  • Proven ability to manage drivers and logistics operations
  • Strong understanding of routing, scheduling, and real-time dispatching
  • Experience using dispatch software / TMS systems
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance and trucking regulations
